Sasha (formerly known as Verity) adopted by Johnny on 04/07/2020

I first visited the DFW Humane Society 2 or 3 months ago and fell in love with Verity. I thought about adopting her on the spot but decided it just wasn’t the right time for it, Fast forward to the Coronavirus outbreak. Being isolated in my apartment I was feeling especially lonesome and decided now would be a good time to find a forever companion. I visited the website and, sure enough, Verity was still at the shelter! I called to verify and adopted her on Tuesday, renaming her Sasha. She is a remarkably loving cat. Indeed it is love at first sight!

Townley Elementary students and DFWHS volunteer, Pat, show off the results of their Destination Imagination service learning project.

A group of Townley Elementary students recently completed a community service project for the Destination Imagination program focused on supporting shelter pets.

Gabby, Minh, Lam, Roxana (all pictured), and several other Townley Elementary students chose DFW Humane Society pets as the basis of their Service Learning project for their Destination Imagination competition.

The students created a plan to collect vital donations to help with the care of pets currently waiting for their forever homes at our shelter. The team set up donation bins for each grade level at Townley Elementary and assigned a specific wish list item to those grade levels.

When the donation drive was complete, the students delivered the amazing results to the shelter. While at the shelter, volunteers treated them to a tour of the facility, introduced them to some of the pets that their efforts helped, and received goody bags that included a DFW Humane Society teddy bear, an animal rescue activity book, and other small items as a thank you for their extraordinary efforts.

DFW Humane Society staff and volunteers, and most importantly our pets, are beyond grateful for their compassion, hard work, and wonderful results.

Fidget (formerly colt) adopted by Catherine and Ryan on 02/08/2020

This is what I was going to say: We came to the Irving animal care campus on the afternoon of 1/8/2020 looking for a kitty friend. We were very impressed with the facility and saw kitties on both sides of the building. The volunteers were incredible and loved the cats very much. We ended up choosing an 8 month old kitten named colt. We have since changed his name to fidget. One of the volunteers there was the one who fostered him. He is the sweetest cuddly boy who loves exploring and the cat tree. We love him a lot.

Hailey adopted by Tiffany on 02/23/2002

I found Hailey (her adoption name was Valentine but I changed it) at your shelter in 2002. She was 2 months old and the cutest dog I’ve ever seen. I was told there was a long waiting list for her. I said, “Put me on it.” I was told several times the list was so long I wouldn’t get her. I got on the list and came to visit her every day you were open. One day I got the call to come get my dog. She has been my best friend ever since. She is now 18 years old and still my best friend

Samson (formerly known as Guss) adopted by Nathan and Hope on 10/17/2017

Shortly after my husband and I got married and moved into our first apartment we decided that we wanted a dog. We were set on adopting only young dogs, preferably a puppy if available. I went on the website for the DFW Humane Society and found a 1 year old black lab that we were certain we wanted. The day we went out to meet this dog, we stumbled across an old black lab one kennel before we got to the young pup. He was a brute of a dog with his body pressed against the gate of the kennel, but most of all he looked sad. I felt so bad for the old dog that I just had to take him out to the yard to play for a bit–just to give him some attention as we were set on getting the younger dog.
We should have known better. We instantly got attached to the old guy (formerly Guss). We liked him so much that for the next three days we went back to the shelter to hang out with Guss. By the fourth day we knew he was the one for us. I still remember the day we adopted him; the staff was so excited that an older dog was getting adopted and they gifted us with toys and a big box of milk bone dog treats. Guss had just recently been relocated there after being at a different shelter where his previous owners had abandoned him, so it was a very happy day for everyone.
Fast forward to now, and (now) Samson feels as though he’s been ours forever. He loves his daddy and he loves his tennis balls. He has a 2 year old sister kitty and a 3 month old sister puppy and they all get along super well. Samson has even learned some tricks with us! My favorite is “bark”, which he does when I cup my hand over my ear like I can’t hear something. We love our big furry family, and it all started with our best boy Samson.
