My name is Melissa, I was at the opening of the Irving shelter and soon after volunteered to help around and take care of the dogs. Soon after volunteering I really wanted a dog and even bought a book about different dog breeds trying to decide which one I wanted. But later, as I was browsing the dfw humane website I came across a cute puppy face. I couldn't describe the feeling except that I knew he was mine, his name while there was Blitz. I called the shelter and they said that he was still there but they were closing so I couldn't come see him. The next morning I woke up extra early, determined to be the first one there. As soon as you opened I asked to see Blitz, I was given a privacy room and as soon as I held him I knew I couldn't walk out without him. He stay snuggled up in my arms climbing on my neck. I walked out with him ready to adopt him, as I was waiting a guy at the desk took a call and said "Yes, we still have Blitz" but once he saw me with him he asked me if I was adopting him and I said Yes, he then told the person on the phone that Blitz was actually about to be adopted.

Since that day he and I were inseparable, I love him so much. He went from being Blitz to being Logan. Anywhere I went he went. If I went to my family's house they knew he was coming with me. He protected me while we went on walks, he actually even slept on my bed with me. I was able to teach him hand signals. My family said I spoiled him bur I'd say "He's not spoiled just very well maintained " and he never did anything bad intentionally, he just had "blackout " moments lol. I'm sorry, he blacked out when he snatched your doughnut, he didnt understand what he was doing lol. He even watched TV with me. If I was sitting on the floor then he'd rather lay between my legs then on comfortable pillows.
I had him for 11 short, blessed years before I unexpectedly lost him. My world hadn't been the same without him ssince. It's been 5yrs. Since his passing and I think I'm ready to find another dog, I've been hoping to come across a puppy that looked similar to him, not to replace of course, but to honor him. Adopt a puppy from the same place I was blessed before. Thank you! I still have my volunteer shirt that I got. If you come across a shepherd mix puppy like mine in the photo please let me know.
